Lectures, Talks & Workshops

Art LecturesI am always happy to be invited to come and speak about my work to groups – whether they be art collectors, students, art associations – any group of people interested in art.

I have a number of possibly subjects I can talk about, illustrated richly with wonderful slides of my work over the years, past and present, including:

  • For Art Students, Students of History of Art or Museum Studies – I can present a lecture on the History of Artists Methods and Materials
  • For Collectors I can lecture about the History of Art Conservation, which can be enlightening when dealing with art that requires care and in the choosing of a conservator
  • For Art Associations I can talk about General Housekeeping and the Care, Handling and Storage of Art.

Together with my colleague and expert Art Framer, Janos Novak, who owns and runs J.Dewers Custom Framing and Fine Art Services we can discuss archival framing of artwork, the best way to protect works of art on paper by the correct framing and glazing, how to choose a frame for your artwork, gilding and the fabrication of frames, their restoration and preservation – and the correct way to handle, store, and display your art. Janos used to work at the Balboa Art Conservation Center in Balboa Park also, and has a wealth of experience. He can be found at www.jdewers.com.

Please contact me if you would like me to come and present a lecture or workshop soon!

Example: Lecture “Understanding Art Conservation” at UC, San Diego

My lecture at UCSD was entitled ‘Understanding Art Conservation – a history and career perspective’.  In presenting this talk, I showed how the profession of art conservation has evolved, using my own career as illustration.  Because I have been a paintings conservator for 30 years, I have many fascinating projects and stories to discuss, with some glorious slides to show.

Client Testimonial

“Sarah, thank you so ever much for the really interesting lecture!  We appreciate the time and thought you put into it, especially since these things take away from the time you spend on your artistic livelihood.  Really, we are so impressed with your education and experience–it’s quite overwhelming”.  Christine Sullivan, Curriculum Committee, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, U.C.S.D.
